Welcome and Introduction

The Municipality of the County of Pictou is the local government responsible for providing services to the citizens in the rural communities of Pictou County. The Municipality has a population of approximately 20600 and is the largest of the six municipal governments located in Pictou County. The Municipality provides services in the areas of public works, some local roads, sewer and water, recreation, in addition to other municipal services and governance.

Landfill Vouchers from the Municipality of Pictou County will be available from June 1 to November 30, 2020.  Vouchers can be mailed to you by calling, 902-485-4311.  

Administration Building:

Payment of tax and water accounts can be accepted at our Administration but also via online banking through your financial institution, or by cheque/money order sent to PO Box 910, Pictou, NS, B0K 1H0.

All Public Meetings Suspended:
All public meetings including council and committee meetings have been suspended and council will meet via electronically. Meetings rooms in our administration building are no longer available for public meeting spaces.

Public Works:
Our public works department is operating as usual but will be limiting their exposure to the public and practicing social distancing procedures.  For after-hour public works emergencies, please call 902-301-1825.

Bylaw Officer:
Our Bylaw and Dog Control Officer is continuing to work as usual with social distancing procedures in place.  This department can be reached at 902-485-8640.

Building Inspections:
New protocols have been put in place for buildings inspections to take place.  See our website at for more details or contact 902-485-4588. 

All recreation programs have been suspended, but our recreation coordinator and active communities coordinator are continuing to work on upcoming events and programs.  Recreation staff can be reached at 902-485-8528 or 902-485-2247.

If emergency assistance is required in rural Pictou County for issues regarding water, wastewater or municipal roads, please call:  
PUBLIC WORKS – 902-485-4085 between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.   If there is not a Public Works staff member in the office to immediately answer your call, it will be transferred to voicemail and a second number will be available for emergency calls.  It is 902-301-1825 and this phone is carried by a Public Works staff member 24/7.
