Municipality Developing Project to Connect Local Farmers to Consumers

In partnership with the Pictou County Food Security Coalition, the Municipality of the County of Pictou aims to produce an on-line map and listing of where locally grown food is available in Pictou County directly at the farm. By identifying opportunities for consumers to purchase locally grown produce, the reliance on refrigeration at home, within stores or through long distance hauls is greatly reduced.

The project aims to create a robust farm and food network, by connecting producers and consumer.  Many consumers want to buy more of their food from local growers, often directly from the grower.  This project will identify those opportunities and provide a resource to enable this to happen.

The Municipality is seeking producers of locally grown items interested in becoming partners in the project. To register to become part of the database producers simply need to contact the Municipality as described below. Parties interested should identify the type of products that they generally have available and that they would want to market as part of the database, as well as contact information including name, address, phone number and email address if applicable. Municipality would appreciate a response by March 21, 2018. Funding for this project was received from the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities Carbon offset fund.
