Municipality of Pictou County Warden Robert Parker recently signed a proclamation declaring May as Lyme Disease Awareness Month.

The proclamation states that Lyme disease is a serious illness caused by a bite of a black legged tick infected with bacterium Borrelia burgdorfer and the ticks can be found in all areas of Nova Scotia.

It is believed that awareness, education and practicing preventative measures, such as daily tick checks and proper tick removal, can help reduce your chances of contracting tick borne diseases.
