Wildfire Prevention Information Session in Little Harbour

Two local fire departments want to people to realize that wildfire is a serious threat throughout Canada, and it can happen here.

The Little Harbour Fire Department and the Pictou Landing Fire Department are hosting an information session on Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. at the Little Harbour Fire Department.

Kara McCurdy of Nova Scotia Lands and Forestry Fire Prevention will be giving a Fire Smart presentation so people can learn how to reduce the risk of wildfire around their homes and properties.

Wildfires put neighbourhood communities, environmental resources, public and firefighter safety at risk every year.

For example:
2009 in Spryfield, Halifax County – 1000 people evacuated
May 2016 in Fort MacMurray, Alberta – 88,000 people evacuated
2018 in Cole Harbour, Halifax County – 100 homes evacuated
May 2019 in High Level, Alberta – 4000 people evacuated.

The information session is open to all residents wanting to learn more about wildfire prevention.
